FAQs

Commercial EPC frequently asked questions

What is a commercial EPC?+

A non-domestic Energy Performance Certificate rating the energy efficiency of a commercial building from A to G, together with a recommendations report.

How long is a commercial EPC valid?+

Commercial EPCs are generally valid for 10 years, though a newer certificate supersedes an older one for the same property.

When is a commercial EPC required?+

Typically on completion of a new-build, on marketing for sale, on grant of a new lease, and to evidence MEES compliance where applicable.

How long does an assessment take?+

Site time depends on building size and complexity. Simple retail units can be surveyed in an hour or two; larger and more complex buildings take longer. Turnaround from survey to lodged certificate depends on the assessment level and completeness of documentation.

Do you cover the whole of the UK?+

We arrange assessments nationwide, subject to property type, location and assessor availability. Regulations and registers differ between England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland — we flag the distinctions.

Do you publish prices online?+

No. Every commercial property is different, so we review the requirements before providing a tailored quotation. Contact us with the property details for a quote.

Can you handle a whole portfolio?+

Yes. Our multi-site service coordinates assessments across regional and national portfolios with a single point of contact and consolidated document delivery.

What does a poor rating mean?+

Where a property rates F or G, options include improving the rating via the recommendations report, registering a valid MEES exemption, or reviewing the marketing strategy. Our team can help interpret the report.
